It’s that time of the year when we realize that we struggle
to keep up with our goals that we set at the beginning of the year. Winter has
set in and the busyness of life begins to get in the way of our goals. Maybe it’s
not that we need to just set goals and how to achieve them. Maybe it’s that we
have to let go of our bad habits or activities that are holding us back from
achieving what we were created to do.
As a teacher of seniors in high school, I have to motivate
throughout the year that their goal is to graduate first and then move forward
into their next life. Many of them struggle to understand that some of the
activities that hold them back are in their power and control to either let
them succeed or fail. As an adult, I have come to realize that I too may
struggle with some of those activities.
We have to be aware of how we spend our time. Most of us
spend much time on our phones with social media. I know because I see and love
all of your posts. I am guilty of this as well. We have to understand that if
we give time to social media or television or whatever else can be a
distraction, we are taking time away from what we need to do.
Time is precious. We cannot go back and relive or redo
anything from the past. We can look forward to the future and we need to live in
the present in order to have a better future. Solomon addressed the issue of
time in Ecclesiastes. There is a time for everything. There is a time to play
and a time to work. There is a time to rest. There is a time for war and a time
for peace. Time. It’s one of the things that once we lose we cannot recover.
Since time is precious, we need to treat it as that. I am
writing this to remind myself of it. As we get older, we realize how valuable
time is. People who have had diseases that could have taken their lives have
approached life and time as urgent. There is an urgency. Our society needs us
to spend our time on ways to make the world a better place for all people. Our
children deserve the best of ourselves and we need to give them the best of our
time.
As I look back at the goals I set at the beginning of the
year, as I try to do at the beginning of each month, I realize that it wasn’t
the fact that I didn’t have time to do what would help me reach my goals, but I
didn’t use my time wisely. I wasted it. It is a new day. We have today to live
and make the most of it. Time is ticking away. Let’s make the most of every
moment, for every moment is precious. In the end, we will be able to look back and
see the exact moment when we started to make better use of our time. It is then
that we will understand that time is a gift that God has given us that we can
no longer waste. The time is now.
